Action Research Project Progress

Ok friends.... this is what I have so far...

Action Research Topic:
In Jefferson County, PCT 7 which sentencing program or programs are the most effective in preventing repeat truancy.

Goal:
The main goal of this project will be to investigate which truancy sentencing programs are most effective in preventing repeat truancy filings. A few sub-goals I hope to learn from this project are: are there any online resources for truancy, what are the best ways to prevent truancy from happening, and what role do parents play in truancy.

Timeline:

Needed Resources
Evaluation
Search the web, magazines, books and periodicals for information about truancy and its’ effects. Investigate ways other Justice of the Peace offices are using creative sentencing in their courts. Investigate ways school districts are using to prevent truancy. Interview Judges and school personnel to find out their methods in preventing truancy and repeat truants. Find out what impact technology plays in truancy.  Use my blog to record weekly observations about my progress.

  1. Marissa you have a major project on your hands and I wish you the best. Once you have conducted all of your interviews and surveys, how will you try to fix the truancy problem? I think you will need a support team as well because it's such a big task and you need someone to bounce ideas off of, therefore you won't feel overwhelmed in the long run. I love your plan and I look forward to hearing about how everything will work out.

    Good Luck.

  2. Hey Marissa,
Sorry I could not peep in on your earlier. I hadn't forgotten about you, so here I am giving you my 2 cents:)
I was thinking (after reading over your plan and seeing Flo's comment) that your project might be a little too major. I figure you can duke it out with superwoman, but maybe you should try to create a sample of those with whom you observe and interact. I am going to guess that there are a good number of truant individuals....maybe you want to limit the sample to a certain age range or grade level so you aren't swarmed with data and information.
Just a few thoughts...have a great week friend!
